Rotation schedules are complex, complicated and time consuming, Tulane wanted to change this and make it as streamlined as possible.
Using eduSched’s Schedule Builder and custom path-based scheduling, Tulane and AllofE worked together to create a system that maximized time and was easy to navigate.
A focus on efficiency and time management…
Tulane had been using the eCurriculum and eValuate modules of eMedley when they approached AllofE with a new challenge. How can we streamline our clinical scheduling process without losing the flexibility we need?
Scheduling clinical rotations for students can be a time consuming and complicated process. Each University has its own complex structure and set of rules to follow. At Tulane, registrars need a tool which quickly organizes student schedules and allows for the ability to make the inevitable changes necessary. Year 3 students are scheduled into their core rotations through path-based scheduling, while Year 4 students finish up their remaining core rotations and take electives. Each student must fit into place while taking into account factors such as student preferences, preceptor capacities, and site.
For Year 3 path-based scheduling, the first step is students ordering their preferred rotation paths. Once their preferences are set, an automated process selects the optimal path for all students. Every student has the flexibility to start with any rotation, and path scheduling guides them through the rest of the program.
To tackle Year 4 schedules, AllofE worked closely with Tulane to build and customize a new “Schedule Builder” within the eduSched system. This all-in-one builder gives a bright visual representation of student schedules. Specific rotation blocks can be added and removed in a few simple clicks. Each student sits one-on-one with the registrar to plan their final year.
With the help of the vibrant Schedule Builder and intuitive Path Scheduling, Tulane is able to schedule all of their 3rd-year & 4th-year students in a matter of hours. We continue to work together to streamline all processes.
